BetterIG Privacy Policy

BetterIG is a browser extension that improves the Instagram Web experience. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.

Summary

BetterIG has no servers, no database, no accounts and no analytics. Everything the extension handles stays in your browser, on your device. Nothing is ever transmitted to the developer or to any third party.

Data stored on your device

Extension storage (chrome.storage.local)

• Feature settings: which features are turned on or off.
• Usage stats: time spent watching reels, number of reels watched, stories viewed and interactions such as likes and keyboard shortcuts used. They are kept as weekly and all-time totals and shown only to you in the extension popup.
• Welcome tour: whether the one-time welcome tour has already been shown.

Instagram site storage (localStorage and sessionStorage on instagram.com)

• Player preferences: preferred video quality, playback speed and whether auto-scroll to the next reel is enabled.
• Pause state: whether playback is paused while you browse. This is kept only for the current browser session.

Data processed in memory only

To list the video resolutions available, BetterIG reads the video information that Instagram already sends to your browser while you use the site, and loads the resolution you pick directly from Instagram’s own media servers. This information is processed in memory only. It is never stored, logged or sent anywhere else.

BetterIG does not read your direct messages, your password, your contacts or your personal account details.

What BetterIG does not do

• It does not send any data off your device.
• It does not sell, rent or share data with third parties.
• It does not use data for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness or lending purposes.
• It does not use cookies, trackers or analytics.
• It does not load or run remote code.

Permissions

• storage: saves the settings and stats listed above on your device.
• Access to instagram.com: the extension only runs on Instagram pages, where it adds its features. It does not run on any other website.

Your control over your data

• You can reset all usage stats at any time from the extension popup.
• Uninstalling BetterIG deletes everything in its extension storage.
• Player preferences stored on instagram.com are removed when you clear site data for instagram.com in your browser settings.

Changes to this policy

If BetterIG’s data practices change, this policy will be updated before the new version is published, and the date at the top will change.
